NOCTURA JOURNAL / DESIGN

Design a contact page that starts conversations

Make the next step clear, from the details you ask for to what happens after someone submits a message.

THE TAKEAWAY

Ask for what you need, and explain the next step in language your visitors understand.

01

Offer a clear way to get in touch

Some visitors have a complete brief; others have one quick question. Make your main contact channel easy to find, and avoid requiring answers people may not have yet. Budget can include a ‘not sure’ option, while company details can remain optional when they aren’t needed to begin the conversation.

02

Keep labels visible

Placeholders can provide examples, but shouldn’t be the only labels because they disappear during typing. Keep a visible label for each field, indicate required information, and make validation messages actionable. A request to check the email format gives people more direction than a generic ‘invalid input’ message.

03

Describe what the button actually does

If a button opens an email app, say that it creates a draft that still needs to be sent. If a form submits directly, confirm success only after the system accepts the message. Distinguishing these states prevents visitors from believing a message has been delivered when it hasn’t. Provide an alternative contact method when the main path fails.
